Atheism could best be described as a state of "creedlessness", as in: "I am a creedless person."

It seems like this picture ought to make my point: Atheism is not a creed. Just like the owner's manual for your car or your toaster, any creed may contain an atheistic world view as a component. "Atheistic Communism" only differs from "Christian Communism" or "Buddhist Communism" by the absence of any creeds. Atheists believe in many things, and even we fail to identify ourselves accordingly. Whatever label you choose carries your identity as an atheist inherent to it.
