Secular
Progressive Words
As chosen to be those which best defend, reinforce and represent a system
of Secular Progressive Values such as is found among atheists and other
secular-minded people.
by Lloyd Harrison Whitling
Good and evil must be strictly regarded according to their
effects upon humanity, or as concepts be invalid, for to whatever other
worthy task could they be employed but to the service of would-be masters
over our rights and freedom to act and to think? Truly evil people must be
those who deem evil as good, and aggressively act to perpetuate their
inhumane beliefs throughout humanity; elsewise, who else could we
legitimately consider evil if not those who would do us harm, or lead us
into harming ourselves?
Arguments against the semantic terrorists who occupy the
current apparently successful attempts to foist a theocratic government of
fascism onto Americans will be mostly counterproductive unless we can
learn to cope with the highly refined system of Orwellianism with which
they are trained, it seems, from birth. They, who understand little of
natural reality unless it fits into their rabid agenda, gullible in their
own right, get trained to refer to us as ignorant and immoral savages, and
feel free to lodge all kinds of accusations against us as a result of our
own untrained ineptness. We are guilty only when we are so trained, or so
untrained. By their own words, it is our innocence that makes us guilty.
We, who have had to find our own ways to deal with the
world, are disadvantaged because of our late start, our lack of the kind
of common understanding that promotes cohesiveness for our own group, and
our reluctance to learn the skills for fighting dirty.

We are so naive that we think truth will, of its own
accord, win out over the lies and beguiling deception that belligerent
antisecularists sweat to perpetuate under truth's banner. We act as though
we can sit back, relax, and let life go on and get better with no active
support from our own countering efforts. We, the guardians of natural
truth and the prime actors in defense of the American Constitution and its
amendments, must act as guards will, in response to threats against that
which we stand up to protect, and not as aggressive militants who would
make forays into the midst of those armies advancing against us.
That truth will win without anyone to assert it cannot be
true unless natural truth is fully understood and a system of values
inherent to it developed by assertive action meant to inform and
demonstrate its worth to others like ourselves, who should adopt it and go
on to inform the world about the nature of true morality.

Critical thought (a misnomer that supports
skepticism rather than an interest in learning the truth about something). |
Analytical thought represents the method of
thinking that best supports secularity and reality-derived knowledge. When
used together, critical and analytical thought, correctly applied, rely
upon a gathering of verifiable evidence rather than mere belief. Critical
thought presupposes a skeptical attitude even toward one's own
conclusions. Analytical thought presupposes a willingness to analyze
according to what data has been made available. Teaming them together in a
process of enquiry presupposes a willingness to remain skeptical even when
one has decided upon the best current answer. |

Ignorance is bliss, the old saying goes, and Evangelical Xianity promotes
itself as owning the pathway to bliss. FOOTNOTES:
1: Through altruism, religions
attempt to beguile the gullible into sheeplike responses to fear-inducing
dogma, based on nothing more than hearsay evidence, to work against their
own best interests and betray their own families and societies. The old
saying, "Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish
and he will eat for a lifetime", forecasts the difference between the
results of altruism and practical self-interest.
RETURN
2: Any attempts to assert your own
views may be met with a charge of ranting, rather than your opponent
dealing with anything you said (or wrote). This is a red herring meant to
confer guilt from your aggressive opponent back onto you. Don't ever fall
for it. Your right to assert your values equals theirs, and your values
are more certain than theirs, if you know and understand them.
RETURN
3: Morals derived only from hearsay
and unfounded hand-me-down fables have no factual basis for their support,
can be shown in many ways to be harmful, and are dangerous to human
welfare. Secular values that have been derived from natural science and
awareness of natural laws can be demonstrated to be wholesome and good for
humanity (whereas secular practice of morality adopted from prominent
local religions cannot, and serves only to usurp understanding of natural
laws). RETURN
4: Conservatism is a way of
promoting juxtaposed principles: What is behind antiabortionism is to
guarantee a supply of cannon fodder for warfaring conservative agendas,
since soldiers mainly come from the lower classes. Death penalties imposed
mostly on members of the lower classes (Oh, and you thought ours is a
"classless society"?) and condemnation to soldiery of well-behaved younger
members (rich conservative kids don't fight in battles) shows a contrary
hidden agenda behind their publicly-expressed premises, is to lower the
numbers of those inclined to vote against their agendas (this will work
only for so long as they can keep a war going). This, as much as anything
else, has contributed to their unwarranted rise in power in the USA.
