Who are the most reviled, hated, lied about, victims of
prejudice in modern America?
By their own propaganda, one would have to assume it is the
Christians, right?– because they are prevented from loading up all the
public places with their religious idols (they claim), prevented from
imposing each and every Orwellian opinion and erroneous doctrine upon
American culture, and prevented from freely directing the creation of laws
to impose their superstitions onto those with different opinions.
And, people keep calling them Xians! For shame! How do you
pronounce that? "Kris-tyuns." For shame!
Atheists, too, appear to revel in that kind of claim, but
taking a good look raises a question about its veracity on either side of
the coin. Let me take a look at it by first putting the Christian claims
aside. Let’s see them as exactly what they are: Mind bending, facts
twisting, anecdotal opinion-derived, error-laden, superstitious agenda
oriented, manipulative propaganda (I think I forgot something).
The founding
fathers of America complained about it in derogatory statements. We
learned all through our school days about the importance of freedom and
how those same founding fathers had warned we would have to support them
or lose them. What we did not learn then (because "Guess who our teachers
were" who did not inform us) we too often allow to escape us now, and that
is exactly about whom those founding fathers warned us.
Naive, we cared not enough about freedom then to study on
our own. Still naive, we can still be found guilty of that. While
agenda-driven superstitious hosts of poisonous mind-parasites live to
foist their disease onto our once-thriving culture and sicken it to death,
we who are the targets of their wrath sit on our back porches and gripe
about how badly they mistreat us. We argue among ourselves about which of
their candidates is the worst to vote for, but offer up none of our own
even though from our own ranks the most qualified people should rise. No
candidate dares to proclaim, "I am an Atheist. I
stand
for secular living and a secular government whose laws are based upon what
mankind can learn about Nature, and for the voiding of laws derived from
the crass, agenda-driven superstitious opinions whose sole aim is the
removal of all rights to live as natural, creative, healthy and
progressive accomplishment-oriented human beings. I am an Atheist because
I can see the true nature of evil as it is found in my dictionary, not as
the Xians describe it, but that it is in the actions of those who would
impose their will upon the truly patriotic of our country. It works
against those who would aim to keep America wholesome and sound and at the
forefront of human health and scientific progress, the very same kind of
progress that has enabled most of us to remain alive today." Why has such
a person not been presented?
It is directly because we, while regarding ourselves to be
correct in our assessments about the true nature of existence, stay too
busy quibbling about minor factoids to keep ourselves mindful of the
overall picture. We remain too mired in our intra-worldview disputes, too
busy standing in circles butting heads to notice how we have left our
backs exposed to murderous hucksters. We have made ourselves complacent
with the notion that truth is on our side, and that we will win out in the
end because of it. Our complacency has made us too lazy to learn how to
most effectively wield the only kind of sword we have for our
self-defense, and, in our complacency-induced laziness, we have let them
usurp the power of pictures and words to overwhelm us. That sword, truth,
will only do that job if someone wields it.
Are we, atheists, then a truly oppressed minority? If we
loll about in our hammocks and bellyache and spend our money on beer and
fun, should we think ourselves justified in our gripes about others coming
after us with their focus on oppressive agendas? "Nah. I just shuck ‘em
off. I can’t be bothered by that. I have too much other stuff to worry
about. I’m too broke to help. I have too many ailments. I have worse
problems than that already, so why should I care?" I have been told all
those things. If you don’t already know the answer to the last
question by the time you reach your maturity, I cannot answer it for you.
It, like other things atheist, is an education you can only effectively
accomplish for yourself. The first question is a result of your too-common
status.
We are an oppressed minority only by our own auspices. If
we can view ourselves as panatheists, people whose absence of supernatural
belief is total, as a position taken up in one extreme location (a
polarity), and those whose supernatural belief is total as a position
located at a distant place opposed to us, and then tally our numbers, we
will discover ourselves to be their equals in that regard. In other words,
if we remain inert and they remain active, we will be overwhelmed. That is
a fact of Nature, which we proclaim to be our source for guidance. Let me
ask you: Have they taken up arms and fired upon us in a physical attempt
to reduce our numbers? You cannot honestly claim that is true. Are they
jockeying for a position from which they can safely eradicate us without
facing reprisals? You had better bet your house on that! If not, history
shows they’ll burn it down in a not-too-distant future.
Our own laxity has spawned another effect that has gained
too little attention, and that has led to our current self-imposed victim
status. Before I get into that, I want to define a couple of words for
those whose nit-pickery helps keep us too preoccupied with details to pay
attention to the big picture. (See
http://www.atheistlloyd.com/content/glossary/glossary.html
). The first word is ‘evil’. We resist acknowledging evil as something
that exists. Our repugnance at that notion keeps us from making use of a
very effective tool, as though we would cast aside a piece of artillery
because someone else had gotten their fingerprints on it first. Let us,
from now on,
define ‘evil’ as being actions and intentions
that yield drastically negative results, negative being that which works
against us. (Good, on the other hand, is actions and intentions
that yield positive results, positive being whatever works in our favor).
Nature often acts in ways we might describe as evil, but keep in mind we
said actions AND intentions. Nature has no purposes of which we have
awareness. To cause pain or loss to others from which benefit is sought at
their expense is intentional evil: It is the nature of such an event, a
condition, not a concrete thing. "Did you do this evil act?" has
universally understood meaning, and that is what words are all about.
Another word is truth, a useful word we have been
taught by some of our fellow atheists to disparage and let go to waste.
Truth, like evil, does not
need to be perceived as something existent, that roams about
among us hoping we’ll take notice. That errant view has been owned by
theists. almost by default. Truth only needs to be understood as that
which works; that which is not lies; a goal toward which we strive.
There's nothing firm or final about any of that. If that which works
is working for us, and that which is not lies is the way we expound
upon our understanding of the world around us, then truth is on our
side. Lies, of course, is that which fails to work or fails
to represent factuality.
The third word, like it or not, is atheism (and
atheist).
As atheists, we disagree among ourselves exactly what we
mean by that. We do so because we have forgotten who created that name for
us, and that we too willingly adopted it and so offered them our own
support in their nefarious enterprises. It tells what we are not and never
what we are. Now, we are stuck with it, while still letting them write our
definitions and also define our way of understanding all those factoids
over which we so industriously argue. That said, let us get on with the
origination of a correct method of understanding.
What do I mean by that? Because of its origin in myths and
prevarication, fantasy-oriented systems of thought evade factual reality
by a method I have come to perceive as reverse thinking. The fancy
and illusion it represents can only be granted reality by using a manner
of verification that works almost counter to the facts-based scientific
method with which progressive human beings find their way toward truth. It
works like this:
A] Somebody wrote it down;
B] Somebody copied it and spread the word;
C] Somebody heard of it and told everybody it's true;
D] Somebody looked and, surely enough, it had been written
down.
Even those of us raised in fully atheistic households get
taught the backward method used by fantasians to support and define their
fantasy-based edicts, and it has caused us no end of frustration, besides
developing enmities between groups of people with many common interests,
whose attitudes ought to be that of mutual adulation.
So, we look at the word atheism and, using the
fantasians' fantasy-supporting backward method of developing our
understanding, we can only arrive at a conclusion that is opposite to the
truth (Truth: that which works, remember?– That which is not lies).
Atheism is the natural condition of a healthy human being from the moment
of birth. The continuance of atheism by any person is only due to the
failure of theists' propaganda to convince that person they are not lying
to him or her. "Sorry, man, I took your trial offer and it left a bad
taste in my mouth. I just cannot convince myself people would actually
kill each other for that."
Atheism represents only that small portion of any
philosophy that is absent of any beliefs about gods. Atheism is how
something may be perceived absent of goddish belief. Have you ever
thought about other ramifications of this, what it would sound like to
always apply it to anything of which that is true? "I gotta get out my
atheistic operator's manual and see how to make this thing go."
To define a political philosophy as, for instance
atheistic communism or atheistic Christianity serves to mislead
us into thinking Christianity or communism is a necessary result of
atheism. It turns out, with a tiny bit of investigation, to be the
opposite of the case. (So, what did we expect to get from a backward
method?) Atheism is a necessary component of many philosophies and
instruction sets. How to turn your TV and radio on and off are atheistic
sets of instructions. Nothing about gods are mentioned in the manuals that
came with your computers; those manuals are atheistic. We refer to them as
'secular'. So, what?
Communism is atheistic only because gods are not a part of
that particular financial philosophy (according to the New Testament,
early Xianity was communistic); the same is true about capitalism; it is
true about the concepts behind democracy and original republicanism. It is
true about the entire construction industry, how to drive a tractor or
horse and plow a field, or drive a car according to the manual your local
DMV will hand you. Atheism is nothing other than the normal, natural,
healthy and most desirable status of all things that exist. Anything other
than atheism is abnormal, unnatural, unhealthy, and very undesirable.
So, what can be gleaned from this? To begin, when a problem
arises with our ways of gaining understanding of things, or of presenting
our understanding to others, we must be very wary that we are not looking
at effects and naming them to be the causes. We must be cautious about our
perceptions of what others present to us as being truths, that they have
not attempted to wool our eyes with the fantasy-supporting nonfactual
reverse methods used by
fantasians, and
that effects are not being used as causes.
Atheism is a condition resultant from mental health, not a
cause of illness. Atheism is contributive of philosophies which promote
humane kindness and a heightened view of human potentials. As such, to
work against its rise among all of humanity must be considered evil as it
has been defined herein. Atheists are perceived as evil only because we
have allowed liars and thieves to demonize us, wherein our inaction has
contributed to the spawning and perpetuation of that kind of evil, and so
can be equivocated with evil in that manner. And so we have become victims
of evil our inaction and permissive lethargy has brought upon ourselves.
