What is meant by the
phrase, 'sexual freedom'? Be careful: If you have a ready answer, it's
more than likely disparaging and wrong…
Robert H. Rimmer
wrote a bunch of books to draw our attention to disparities between our
modern claims to personal freedom and the real thing. Numerous
self-serving organizations exist in modern cultures to convince us that,
as ignorant brutes, we cannot be depended on to treat each other in a
civil manner without hordes of watchdogs imposing serious limitations on
us. Most of them (secretly) have something to sell, or some way to extract
support from us. We have lived under this kind of regime for so long, most
of us have no idea that things could be any other way. In fact, the
majority will scoff at those who sometimes mention small things that are
missing from their lives, and dare to wonder aloud how they became so
perverted.
What is perverted is
a fact, that most of our lives are lived out in unnatural ways, most of
our moral ideas are unnatural, and that most of our doctrinal ideals pit
us against nature in unnatural ways by causing us to think of it as dirty,
unfit, twisted, snarled, knotted, tangled, crude, raw and, with the other
fork of their tongues, would have us believe it is God's perfect creation.
Most of us have been
wrongly taught to associate sexuality and nudity with hedonism, and there
is a realm of thought in which that gets put into practice. Hedonism is
actually a powerful philosophy concerned with the morality of pain and
pleasure as natural teaching devices that instill real values at an early
age that will stick with us for life without the need for artificial
strictures, something sorely missing in America and other western
societies. Pleasure rewards all animals for making correct choices,
whereas pain induces aversive reinforcement that goes against our
willingness to perform that kind of activity.
The dirty-mindedness
inherent to our crotch-oriented moral systems does not inspire that kind
of wisdom. We don't realize our willingness to work for a regular paycheck
versus the dislike of going hungry is a hedonistic practice. We never
thought of that extra bite of dessert Mama gave us for being well behaved
beyond her expectations as an application of hedonist philosophy. We
never, ever had the wisdom to realize that giving someone a hug because
their good deed made us feel good is a practice of hedonism.
Wait! There's more!
In our most prevalent religions, the pitting of Heaven against Hell as
incentive to love God is straight out of hedonism.
