Most of the books Robert H. Rimmer
wrote dealt one way or another with interpersonal sexuality, the
deleterious effects of our strictured relationships upon ourselves, our
children, and society as a body. That the books shown on this page
represent only a smattering of the literature available shows the
immensity of interest they represent in this severely limited area of our
individual freedoms.
There are so many variations and possible applications of
socio-sexual relationships that any discussion of it soon boils down to a
'yabut' session (where someone makes a statement and somebody else says, "Yabut.").
All of these relationships and potential relationships (including
monogamy) are considered 'perverted' by somebody, and something to be
desired only by dirty-minded individuals.
None of them, including monogamy, seem any more or less apt
to be stable or successful than any of the others. Like any of the best
things in life, the choice to gamble on an outcome ought to be up to the
individuals involved, requiring only that they arrive at an agreement they
can accept the responsibility to uphold and nurture, and that they fully
understand whatever they are intending to undertake.
Of a couple of things I feel certain: One is that, whatever
kinds of arrangements you can think of, someone in this country already
has found a way to do them, and they're not likely to be bragging about it
much. If you train your cameras with their telephoto lenses on my house,
you will be disappointed to find only one woman and one man, quite often
holding hands—and one hell of a lot of books! If you feel that interested,
come on down to the house and bring your friends. There's always a pot of
coffee hot. We've been married 47 years, we still love each other, and
we'd enjoy some company. |
